GREENVILLE, SC - It was a pitchers' duel at Fluor Field, but the Tigers showed they can win with pitching and defense. It was the first game of the season without a HR for the Tigers (9-3), who are 2nd in the Power Five and 3rd nationally in HR's.
TL Hanna alum Jackson Lindley made his first start and gave up just one run off 5 hits through 4.2 innings. Unfortunately for Lindley, he was one out short of picking up the win when Monte Lee replaced him with Jacob Hennessy, who was solid in relief along with closer Carson Spiers. The Tigers have already started 4 different freshman pitchers this season.
Monte Lee told me they will have a new starting rotation this weekend for their huge home series with No.3 UNC. It will be Sharpe on Friday, Clark on Saturday and Askew on Sunday. Sharpe moves from Saturday to Friday, so it will be a new starter on all 3 days. Crawford and Wrobleski were both replaced as weekend starters after looking less than impressive in their first 3 starts. The Tigers improve to 9-3 on the season. It was the Tigers' first game without a HR this season.
Post-game interviews with Monte, Lindley and Hennessy are below!
