CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers just did not seem sharp in any way on Friday, losing game 1 to Notre Dame 9-2. There were errors and mistakes all over the field, most of which led to runs for the Irish. Two-way freshman Davis Sharpe pitched pretty well, but 2 errors in the 2nd inning led to Notre Dame's first 3 runs, and they would lead the rest of the game. 4 of Notre Dame's first 5 runs were a result of mistakes by the Tigers, who had 3 errors, 6 passed balls or wild pitches and a botched pick-off move that led to a run. Sharpe only allowed one earned run.
Meanwhile, the Tigers' bats simply could not get anything going against the Notre Dame starter, Sheehan, who pitched a complete game and allowed just 5 hits and one run through the first 8 innings. The one bright spot for the Tigers was Bo Majkowski, who got his first start in a couple weeks and went 2-3 with an RBI.
The loss ends a 5-game win streak, and the Tigers fall to 3-1 in the ACC, 13-4 overall. First pitch of game 2 is Saturday at 3:00, and I'll have live play-by-play right here as always. Mat Clark (3-0) will make his 2nd start of the season. I'll have post-game interviews shortly!
