CLEMSON, SC - It was a frustrating series for the No.12 Tigers, who were coming off 4 straight wins against top-11 teams. I guess you don't want to play Notre Dame on a Lenten Friday or St. Patty's Day. If Teodosio had been able to lay down a bunt with 2 on and no outs in the 9th, the Tigers would have won. That's where the lack of small ball experience and being a power-hitting team hurts. I asked Monte how much they work on bunting on practice, and he said they work on it every single day. Greene flied out after the failed bunt attempt by Teo, and that would have won the game for the Tigers.
Askew pitched pretty well on the mound. Another error cost the Tigers a run early, just like on Friday. Byrd had two errors today, but he redeemed himself with the game-tying 2-RBI double in the 8th. Just a frustrating series for the Tigers! They fall to 14-5 overall and 4-2 in the ACC. This is a series you would expect them to win at least 2 of 3 and probably sweep at home. Hopefully they'll bounce back on Tuesday when they host Monte's alma mater, College of Charleston. They play CofC again on Wednesday in Columbia. Then they go to BC next weekend. Tough to play two mid-week games and then travel to Boston on your only day off! The Tigers have gone 3 straight games without a HR. They were tied for 4th in the nation with 27 HR's before this series.
I asked Monte for a diagnosis on Kier, and he said they still don't know but he will be out for "a while." I'll have post-game interviews with Monte, Byrd and Askew shortly.
