CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers suffered yet another one-run loss on Tuesday night, losing 8-7 to PC. They are 3-10 in one-run and extra-inning games this season after going 16-6 in such games last season. Teo, Byrd, Greene and Justin Hawkins all homered on Tuesday, but unfortunately 3 of them were of the solo variety. The hitting has actually been reasonably good lately, but the pitching has been horrendous across the board. They have allowed 68 runs in the last 9 games, and that includes several mid-major opponents. This is really uncharted territory for Monte Lee, at least since he's been at Clemson. If the Tigers don't figure out a way to turn this thing around, they're in danger of not making the NCAA Tournament after hosting a regional for 3 straight years. They will host The Citadel tomorrow night at 6:00. Lindley will make the start. Weatherly and Holt Jones will be serving the final game of their 4-game suspension. I asked Monte if he thought that penalty was excessive for hitting a couple batters, and he said it was "a bitter pill to swallow." He said that they never deliberately hit batters.
Post-game interviews with Monte, Byrd and Wilklie are below.
