The Tigers were in full pads for the third time today, and we spoke with Tony Elliott, Gage Cervenka and Sean Pollard after practice. Pollard is now the starting center and has played all five positions on the offensive line. Cervenka told me he actually prefers playing guard, which is why he approached Dabo about making the move from center. Pollard said Cervenka, the former wrestler, is without a doubt the strongest player on the team in the weight room, and Pollard talked about how routinely Cervenka throws the weights around. When I asked Pollard about all the talk that's been going around in the last 24 hours about whether Trevor Lawrence should forego his junior year at Clemson to play in the XFL, Pollard scoffed at the idea. I am fairly certain Trevor would never give such a decision serious thought. Finally, Tony Elliott told us what he's hoping to see in the first scrimmage on Saturday. He reiterated what Dabo told me last night about the good hands exhibited by freshman running backs Chez Mellusi and Michel Dukes. He said that they are both better pass-catchers than Travis Etienne, especially as a freshman.
