We finally finished with interviews after today's scrimmage ran about 45 mins long. It was the longest practice of camp and the final scrimmage. Dabo told me both the first team offense and defense dominated the 2’s, which is good and bad, obviously. DK is finally back from his hamstring, but he unfortunately missed the scrimmage to attend the funeral of a former teammate, who was killed in a car accident. Dabo said he is very pleased with freshman TE Jaelyn Lay, and that he has probably improved more than anyone since the spring. Speaking of tight ends, starter JC Chalk had his best day of camp, making a few nice catches in the scrimmage. Dabo was also effusive in his praise of sophomore OT Jackson Carman, saying he is like a completely different person than he was last year as a freshman--that he's much more mature and committed to being great. Backup safety Nolan Turner had a pick-six in the scrimmage, so that was one of the few bright spots for the backups. Several players are banged up right now but should be ready to go for the opener. Included in that are DE Justin Foster, who missed the scrimmage, DE Justin Mascoll, WR Frank Ladson, LB Jake Venables, LB Baylon Spector and TE Davis Allen.
I’ll have Dabo, Venables, Elliott and players posted shortly!
