CLEMSON, SC - 2020 continues to be a strong decade for Brad Brownell and the Tigers, as they gutted out a 71-68 win over Wake Forest despite another miserable game at the free throw line. I asked Bronwell last Thursday if the inconsistency at the free throw line was a concern. Since then, it cost them the game at NC State on Saturday and almost cost them the game tonight. They were just 9-23 at the line on Saturday and 7-18 tonight, including Clyde Trapp missing the front end of a couple one-and-ones in the final minute. Trapp has been a God send for the Tigers, who have won 4 of their last 5 games since his return from a torn ACL, but he is under 40% at the charity stripe for the season. One would think he would have been shooting free throws more than anyone while he was rehabbing his knee, but he is really struggling with that part of his game.
At the start of my game thread, I commented on Hunter Tyson getting his second career start, and boy did he make the most of it. He scored 21 points, one more than his previous career high from a month ago, and was the only Tiger to score in double figures. That made up for an off night from Simms and Mack, who normally lead the Tigers in scoring.
Don't look now, but the Tigers are 4-4 in the ACC, tied with Defending Champ UVA for 7th in the conference standings! They have a tough road game at top-10 Louisville, which just won at Duke, next on Saturday. Post-game interviews are below!
