CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers were shutout 2-0 by Western Carolina in their first-ever home game on Wednesday, but since then the offensive flood gates have burst open. They beat WCU 8-0 on Wednesday night, beat Maryland 5-1 on Friday and then scored 21 runs in the first 3 innings against the Terps on Saturday! Maryland would score a safety in the 5th inning to make it 21-2 before the mercy rule was invoked to end the game.
The Tigers did the most damage in the 2nd inning, scoring 14 runs. Alia Logoleo batted 3 times in the inning. Two-way star Valerie Cagle continued her hot hitting, going 4-5 with 2 HR's and 8 RBI's. She and Bailey Taylor each had grand slams in the 2nd inning. Marissa Guimbarda also homered for the second straight game and had 3 RBI's. MK Bonamy was 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI's, and Cammy Pereira was 3-5 with a double and an RBI.
Logan Caymol started on the mound and followed up her brilliant 11K no-hitter on Wednesday with 3 scoreless innings of work before Emma Whitfield came in for the last 2 innings.
The Tigers have now won 3 straight and are 5-4 on the season. They swept the Terps in their first 2 games of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and will face Michigan State, which lost to Pitt this morning, at 5:30 today.
