Clemson welcomes former foe and ACC Charter Member Maryland back to Littlejohn on Wednesday for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Tigers are 3-0, and the Terps are 4-0 but haven't played a Power Five team yet. The Tigers have already beaten Miss State and Purdue, each by 11 points, and are coming off a 37-point blowout of SC State without PJ Hall, who had a concussion, and Jonathan Baehre, who had a sore knee. Both are fine and will play against Maryland. The Terps had a great team last year, winning the Big Ten, but they lost their two biggest scorers, including Player of the Year candidate Jalen Smith. They have a strong back court, though, and a 7'2 center with long arms. Both teams press full court, so it should be a fun game to watch! The Tigers held SC State to 1-14 from beyond the arc, and its only make was a bank shot in the final minute. Maryland has a few players that have been lights out from beyond the arc so far this season, so the Tigers will have to be equally vigilant in defending the perimeter as they were last week. The Tigers forced 24 turnovers last week and 65 in their first 3 games!
The Tigers are favored by a couple points, but they'll need Simms to play well and stay out of foul trouble, like he did against Purdue when he scored 24 points. The ACC took it on the chin in round one of the challenge, going 1-6 against the Big Ten, so the conference needs a win out of the Tigers! The game will be televised at 5:00 ET on ESPN2, and I'll have live play-by-play from Littlejohn, with post-game interviews HERE.
