What a game! The Tigers trailed for most of it, but a 3-pointer by Nick Honor with 38 seconds left in regulation tied it for the first time since it was 20-20 and sent the game into overtime. Honor also had a chance to win the game with a last-second shot in regulation, but his jumper was blocked. The Tigers would take their first lead since it was 8-7 in the extra period thanks to back-to-back scores by Aamir Simms, who was the hero on Saturday at Miami. After State cut the lead to 2, freshman PJ Hall would make a clutch jump-hook just before the shot clock expired to give the Tigers a 4-point lead with 10 seconds left. Honor was 5-6 from beyond the arc for a new Clemson career-high 21 points. Simms, who tied his career high with 25 at Miami, including the game-winner, was scoreless late in the second half, so the Tigers needed the big game from Honor.
State came in 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the ACC with a win over No.19 UNC and riding a 3-game win streak, so it was a big win for the Tigers, who are now 9-1 and 3-1 in the ACC. Clemson is tied with VA Tech for the highest ranking in the ACC, and the Tigers are No.15 in the NET rankings. It will be interesting to see if they can keep the momentum going on Saturday and win at UNC for a second straight year after 59 straight losses!
