5-Star WR Justyn Ross is set to make his Clemson
Official Visit this weekend
Clemson comes into this week’s game against The Citadel with a newly-acquired ACC Atlantic Divison Trophy and finds itself in position to win the ACC outright for the third straight year and make a third straight College Football Playoff appearance.
In the upcoming first week of December, the Tigers will vie for the ACC Championship against Coastal Champion Miami, but first the Tigers have to deal with an over-matched squad from the military school in Charleston.
The Citadel has proven in the past that if you don’t respect them, they can make you pay for it in a hurry. Two years ago, this same squad walked out of Columbia with a signature win for the Bulldogs’ program, shocking the Gamecocks on their home field. So don’t let the name fool you. Clemson will not meet a more disciplined football team in any other game this year.
This is also Military Appreciation Day, and Clemson has always held much pride in its heritage and the Clemson connection to the military, going back to the school’s origin as a military college. The Purple uniforms will be on display, as well as the pageantry that comes with the military salutes, and word has it that Lee Greenwood is set to perform his trademark “God Bless the USA.”
This in-state matchup has been an on-and-off game for the folks in the Palmetto State to look forward to going back to the early years of the football programs’ existence. Add the family ties between the two programs, and you have a “friendly rivalry” that both schools have acknowledged for years to come.
As for recruiting, this is “Official Visit” weekend, and all the Clemson commits are set to be on hand. Throw in the uncommitted prospects with the likes of 5-star Jamaree Salyer, Cade Mays and much-heralded wide receiver Justyn Ross, and the Tigers are all set to have a huge recruiting weekend on hand. A complete visitors list will be released later today, so stay tuned for that. But there are already some very intriguing story lines, to say the least. The aforementioned 5-star prospects are all on campus the same weekend as Trevor Lawrence, Xavier Thomas, Mike Jones and the rest of Clemson’s commits that are actively recruiting them to join them on the field as Tigers one day.
With the 2018 class essentially complete, the staff is just
sitting back and playing the waiting game on a few last 2018 recruits. It has
otherwise turned its focus squarely on the 2019 class and beyond. An influx of
2019 kids will be the main focus of this week’s visitors list, but this weekend
is all about these remaining “high value” targets in the 2018 class.
****Clemson Offers Harris
Congrats to 2019 Grayson HS DE Kevin Harris @kevin_harris2 on his latest offer from Clemson University #True19 #Ramszn pic.twitter.com/BbtMCSFokh
— Coach K Watson (@therealkwat) November 2, 2017
The Tigers reached into Georgia and extended an offer to Kevin Harris, the latest from historically talent-rich Grayson High School, which has become a feeder school of sorts for the Tigers. Former and current Tigers like NFL rookie and NY Giants running back Wayne Gallman, Ryan Carter and redshirt QB Chase Brice all came from the Georgia high school, as did Safeties Coach Mickey Conn.
Harris was very happy to receive the Clemson offer and is coming to visit on Saturday. There may be reason to keep an eye on him, as the “commit watch” is in effect. Clemson offered the rangy 4-star earlier in the month, and it’s fast tracking as we speak. But don’t be surprised if the brakes are put on instead. Harris is now getting a lot of love from all over the Power Five, and with over a year until his signing day, he may just sit back a little longer and play this recruitment out.
Kevin was at the FSU game, and some scuttlebutt was out there about a potential commitment on Saturday. We did have reason to track it at the time, and although he didn’t commit, we can confirm that Harris will continue his recruitment for now and is keeping his eye on the Tigers and vice-versa from the Clemson perspective.

In case you missed it last week, the staff had a stellar list of visitors in for the FSU game, and we can confirm no less than 2 dozen 2019-20 top-tier prospects, along with a few current commits like Trevor Lawrence, were on hand to see the Tigers defeat the Seminoles in convincing fashion last Saturday inside the not-so-friendly confines of Death Valley.
Take a look below, as Joy Suddeth brings you images of the 2018,
2019 and 2020 Clemson commits and prospects that were in attendance….

****5-Star Fever
Clemson commits and IMG teammates Xavier Thomas and Mike Jones,
Jr.
This weekend, the Tigers will have their last chance to show recruits the game day environment inside Death Valley on Saturdays here in the late fall. The staff has invited no less than four potential Tigers and current commits that carry the vaunted 5-star ranking.
Current commits Trevor Lawrence and Xavier Thomas are set to be on hand along with OL Cade Mays, OL Jamaree Salyer and the apple of WRU’s eye, Justyn Ross—all of whom are 5-star talents. It’s a given that the Tigers’ recruiting efforts are really starting to take off when you can lure in such highly touted kids to see the Tigers take on an FCS opponent like The Citadel at noon on Saturday.
This assemblage of 5-star talent to any campus is very rare, especially considering that the game should not be competitive, and the Tigers could see their entire dressed roster participate by game’s end. But it’s nevertheless a treat for these recruits to see how they can impact a game in their early careers with the Tigers, showing that playing time is earned on the practice fields and rewarded inside Memorial Stadium on Saturdays.
So stay tuned, as these and a host of others are all set for The Citadel game, including most on the committed prospects in the 2018 Clemson class.
FRIDAY UPDATE: Atlanta big man Jamaree Salyer is NOT coming to Clemson on his Official Visit as originally scheduled. We are no longer tracking Salyer's recruitment after these latest developments. We are now projecting Salyer to announce for UGA, as he has been trending that way since late summer. We will have our updated visitor list posted later today.
